Highland Center Ministries is a mosaic of congregations and organizations who serve together to develop resources, tools, and existing neighborhood assets for the people of Highland.
Our goal is to provide a sustainable program of community services at the Highland Center for the working poor of Highland as a means of mitigating poverty and providing hope for their future and for that of the Highland neighborhood.
HCM began in 2013 as a result of the collaborative success of churches and organizations that developed a meal in 2011, the Highland Blessing Dinner, to meet the hunger needs of the working poor neighbors in the Highland. We began feeding 24 people and currently serve 450 each week.

HCM began in 2013 as a result of the collaborative success of churches and organizations that developed a meal in 2011, the Highland Blessing Dinner, to meet the hunger needs of the working poor neighbors in the Highland. We began feeding 24 people and currently serve 450 each week.
The synergistic effect of churches and organizations working together with the awareness of needs from dining with the neighbors led to the development of additional ministries, like the free tax preparation program, first time homebuyers program, and clothing closets for toddlers, children, women, and men.
Going strong for over 10 years, the Highland Blessing Dinner is a free, weekly, family-style meal on Thursdays at 5:30 pm for anyone interested in joining.
Volunteers are always welcome to drop-in to help serve or host. Please arrive between 4:30 - 5:00 p.m. for set up and orientation as you are able.
Every Tuesday at 12:00 pm, seniors 50+ and older are invited to a sit-down, freshly cooked lunch.
The meal is $5 and includes an entree, side, salad, and tasty dessert!
Volunteer servers are also welcome.
Free, gently-used clothing for newborns, infants, and toddlers. Alongside the other closets, the Little Clothesline is open Monday - Friday, 12pm - 4pm.
A beautiful couture children's shop which provides gently-used clothing as well as school uniforms, started in honor of Maggie Lee Henson. Read Maggie Lee's story here.
The Men's Gear and Women's Casual Clothing Closets have a wide range of clothing and accessories. Guests are welcome to "shop" four times per year.
Affordable, donated home good items are priced-to-sell. These items help neighbors on a budget and support HCM programs.
Low-interest loans help our neighbors work toward a better and independent financial future. This Payday loan-alternative program started with an initial investment from Church for the Highlands and is administered by Pelican State Credit Union or Citizens Bank & Trust. Call (318) 673-8440 for information.
Led by a HUD Certified Financial Counselor, our 8-hour First Time Homebuyer education class is offered once per month on a Saturday. The Workshop is $15/person and also includes 1-1 credit counseling.
The Workshop's certificate of completion may help individuals qualify for the HAPPI Program and other down-payment assistance.
We provide free tax preparation assistance to low-to-moderate income families each year and help return over $500,000 into our community and neighbors' pockets.
Our on-site ATM has an "at-cost" fee of $0.75 for anyone needing to withdraw cash.
An annual event providing new school uniforms for students in need and led by volunteers from Maggie Lee's Closet.
A Halloween Fall Block Party with treats and games!
Through a partnership of Noel UMC, Church for the Highlands, and First Presbyterian Church, this is a shopping event for the Highland neighborhood where all gifts are new and $5 or less.
Your contributions will directly support meals, clothing, and financial services for neighbors in need.
